about

Another eclectic mix of tracks, including a version of what must have been my first ever recorded song written in 1978: "Gloo Is Peace," inspired by some graffiti I saw in a book when I was in school. I recorded this version about 10 years ago. The original can be heard on "The Air Is Thick With Snow." Also a "A Night Out" based on a short 16 bar melody hummed to me by my father Johann (Hans) Siegfried Kloos many years ago. I composed second part of the tune, an answering phrase of 8 bars before returning to the main theme to round it off. He told me he wrote it to describe a scene of a soldier on leave sitting on a hillside looking down on the town below, hearing the sound of people enjoying a night out.

The first two tracks were recorded in 1992 when I was using Computer Musys as my program of choice, limited as it was in tracks. It was using this that also recorded "Organza Dream," and many others a couple of years on.

More recent music comes in with the title track "Mothers" which was recorded in about 2014 (inspired by a visit to the Whitworth Art Gallery, which was holding an exercise class nearby. I would later make ambient sound recordings of the gallery space)....and "Twirly Bird" which I composed in 1979 whilst in my last year of school, finally recorded a couple of years ago. I still have a tape of original recordings. I got quite adventurous with chord progressions, jazz chords I had no names for and still don't.

Most recent of all is the addition of "Time Spent" which is actually two tunes rendered in MIDI stitched together, for a short video I posted on Youtube recently. The opening theme was also composed in 1979 while I was still in school. The second was composed in 1993 while I was a student at Harlow College.

I hope you enjoy this album.
